Calyrex-Ice
VGC Guide
Calyrex-Ice Rider boasts 165 Attack and base 50 Speed — making it the most threatening restricted legendary under Trick Room. Glacial Lance spread deals simultaneous damage to both opponents; Chilling Neigh stacks Attack +1 on every KO, creating an unstoppable snowball. Psychic/Ice dual STAB with 150 Defense makes Calyrex-Ice both explosive and durable in Trick Room teams.
Chilling Neigh: Attack +1 on Every KO Core
Chilling Neigh is Calyrex-Ice’s exclusive ability (As One Ice Rider form) — Attack rises by +1 stage every time it knocks out an opposing Pokémon. Base 165 Attack reaches effective 247.5 after the first KO; under Trick Room priority, this becomes nearly impossible to stop. Glacial Lance is a 120 BP spread Ice physical move that simultaneously strikes both opposing Pokémon, allowing Calyrex-Ice to apply field-wide pressure in a single action while triggering Chilling Neigh.
As One: Unnerve + Chilling Neigh Combined
As One (Ice Rider) combines Unnerve (opposing held Berries cannot be used) with Chilling Neigh. Unnerve suppresses opposing held Berries, preventing Sitrus Berry, Lum Berry, and other recovery items from activating at critical moments. Glacial Lance’s spread dual-target coverage under Trick Room priority lets Calyrex-Ice simultaneously suppress two opponents in one turn while stacking Attack — creating a nearly irreversible snowball advantage.
EV Spreads
Team Partners
Porygon2 is Calyrex-Ice’s most reliable Trick Room setter; Eviolite raises Def/SpDef by ×1.5, and Download auto-boosts the best offensive stat. Porygon2’s extreme bulk ensures safe Trick Room setup, giving Calyrex-Ice the opportunity to act first with Glacial Lance spread.
Lunar Dance is VGC’s only PP-restoring revival move — fully reviving the next switch-in. Cresselia sets Trick Room then sacrifices with Lunar Dance, allowing Calyrex-Ice to re-enter at full HP for another sweep — a near-unanswerble double threat. 120/120/130 bulk guarantees high Trick Room setup success rate.
Armor Tail completely prevents opponents from using priority moves, allowing Trick Room setup without Fake Out interference. Calyrex-Ice’s biggest threat is Trick Room being disrupted by Fake Out; Farigiraf eliminates this risk entirely. 100 HP bulk combined with Mental Herb ensures reliable Trick Room setup.
Incineroar’s Fake Out suppresses opponents before they act, while Parting Shot creates switch momentum. Alongside the Calyrex-Ice Trick Room core, Incineroar uses Fake Out on setup turns to suppress opposing disruption — letting Porygon2 or Cresselia safely complete Trick Room while Calyrex-Ice prepares to sweep.
How to Counter Calyrex-Ice
Calyrex-Ice’s power is entirely dependent on Trick Room. Preventing Trick Room setup with Taunt, Encore-locking the setter, or covering with your own Trick Room forces Calyrex-Ice to act last in normal Speed order — dramatically reducing its threat level.
Steel types (Porygon2, Iron-series Pokémon) resist Ice damage; other Ice types take neutral Ice hits and resist Ice-type moves from STAB. Teams featuring Steel types can safely absorb Calyrex-Ice’s primary STAB spread output, dramatically reducing its sweep efficiency.
Dark types are completely immune to Psychic-type moves, which is Calyrex-Ice’s primary coverage move. Teams running Dark types do not need to fear Psychic coverage and can more safely counter-position against Glacial Lance spread output.
Calyrex-Ice as a Psychic/Ice type has 2× weakness to Fire, Rock, Bug, Dark, Ghost, and Steel. Fire threats like Incineroar or Chi-Yu can deal super-effective damage outside Trick Room. Rock Slide spread from Garchomp hits for super-effective spread damage against Calyrex-Ice on the field.
