Tornadus
VGC Guide
Tornadus is one of VGC’s most-used support Pokémon. Prankster grants +1 priority to all status moves — Tailwind, Taunt, Rain Dance — ensuring speed control is set before opponents can act. It functions as an essential speed-control anchor for Sun, Rain, and offensive teams alike.
Prankster: Priority Setup Mechanics
Prankster gives all of Tornadus’s status moves +1 priority, ensuring Tailwind is set before any standard-speed move. One critical exception: Prankster moves fail against Dark-type Pokémon (post-Gen 7 rule) — Tornadus cannot use Prankster-boosted moves targeting Dark-type opponents.
- • Tailwind (+1 priority, Speed ×2 for 4 turns)
- • Taunt (+1 priority, blocks opponent’s status moves)
- • Rain Dance (+1 priority, manual weather switch)
- • Light Screen / Reflect (+1 priority, bulk support)
- • All Dark-type Pokémon (when targeting them)
- • Tailwind targets own side — not affected by Dark rule
- • Already Taunted targets (Taunt-on-Taunt fails)

How to Counter Tornadus
Prankster moves fail against Dark-types. Bring Incineroar or other Dark-types — Tornadus’s Taunt becomes useless, and you maintain your own setup window.
Other Prankster users or faster Pokémon can Taunt first, blocking Tornadus’s Tailwind. Grimmsnarl (Prankster Taunt) is the most effective direct counter.
Electric is super-effective against Flying. Miraidon’s Electro Drift and Thunderbolt rapidly KO Tornadus before Tailwind can be set.
Rock moves are super-effective against Flying (2×). Stone Edge or Rock Slide can threaten Tornadus at mid-speed ranges.
