Farigiraf
VGC Guide
Farigiraf’s core VGC value comes from Armor Tail: it completely prevents opponents from using any priority move while Farigiraf is on the field, including Fake Out, Extreme Speed, Quick Attack, and Sucker Punch. This makes it impossible for opponents to interrupt Trick Room setup with Fake Out — making it the most reliable Trick Room setter in the format.
Armor Tail: The Priority-Blocking Ability
Armor Tail completely prevents all opposing Pokémon from using priority moves (+1 or higher priority) while Farigiraf is on the field. This includes Fake Out (Incineroar’s primary disruption), Extreme Speed, Vacuum Wave, and Quick Attack. Opponents cannot use Fake Out to interrupt Trick Room setup by Farigiraf or its partner — dramatically increasing setup success rate.
Trick Room: 60 Speed Advantage Under TR
Farigiraf’s base 60 Speed becomes an advantage under Trick Room: most fast VGC attackers have Speed above 60, so Farigiraf acts first under TR. 0 Speed IVs + Brave nature minimize Speed to act first against the widest range of opponents. Cud Chew is the alternative ability, but Armor Tail provides irreplaceable utility for guaranteed setup.

Team Partners
With Farigiraf’s Armor Tail preventing Fake Out, the Tatsugiri Commander combo on Dondozo activates cleanly, giving Dondozo +2 to all stats before acting under Trick Room. This combination is the most reliable TR sweep setup in current VGC.
Iron Hands’ base 67 Speed outputs heavily under Trick Room. Farigiraf’s Armor Tail protects Iron Hands from Fake Out disruption during TR setup. Both act before most opponents under TR, forming a stable slow dual core.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s special attack explodes offensively under Trick Room. Farigiraf’s Armor Tail ensures undisrupted setup, while Ursaluna’s Mind’s Eye lets Blood Moon hit Ghost-types that would normally be immune to Normal moves.
Porygon2 provides backup Trick Room capability with high special defense. When Farigiraf faints, Porygon2 maintains TR momentum. Together they provide a combined 8-turn TR window, giving slow sweepers maximum field time.
How to Counter Farigiraf
Taunt prevents Farigiraf from using Trick Room for 3 turns. Mental Herb automatically cures one Taunt, so countering requires either two consecutive Taunts or waiting for Mental Herb to be consumed before applying Taunt again.
Farigiraf’s primary attacking moves — Psyshock and Psychic — are completely blocked by Dark-types. Dark-type Pokémon can freely switch into Farigiraf’s special attacks with zero risk while maintaining offensive pressure.
Farigiraf has a 2× Bug-type weakness (Psychic ×2). Strong Bug attacks like U-turn, Bug Buzz, or Leech Life deal significant damage, bypassing Farigiraf’s high HP with super effective hits that can KO through Leftovers recovery.
Knocking out Farigiraf before it sets Trick Room is the most direct counter. Farigiraf’s Defense at 70 is only moderate — strong physical spread moves can OHKO or 2HKO in one or two turns before TR activates.
