Glimmora
VGC Guide
Glimmora’s Toxic Debris ability scatters Poison Spikes on the field every time it is hit by a contact physical move, forcing opponents to choose between using physical moves and passively poisoning themselves. 130 Defense lets Glimmora absorb multiple physical hits while continuously triggering Toxic Debris; Mortal Spin clears own hazards while simultaneously poisoning the opponent. 130 SpAtk with Power Gem spread and Sludge Wave provides active offensive threat — a complete Rock/Poison dual STAB spread special attacker.
Toxic Debris: Poison Spikes on Every Physical Contact Core
Toxic Debris is Glimmora’s exclusive ability — every time it is hit by a contact physical move, one layer of Poison Spikes is scattered on the opposing field. Poison Spikes poison non-Ground-type Pokémon on switch-in (Steel and Poison types are immune), with two layers causing Toxic poisoning. In VGC doubles, this forces opponents into a strategic choice between using contact physical moves and accepting passive poisoning. 130 Defense allows Glimmora to absorb multiple physical hits and repeatedly trigger the ability; Rocky Helmet further punishes every contact hit.
Mortal Spin: Hazard Removal + Poison Dual Utility
Mortal Spin is Glimmora’s signature move: a 100 BP Poison physical move that removes hazards from the user’s field while guaranteeing the target is poisoned. In VGC doubles, Mortal Spin allows Glimmora to manage field resources while dealing damage, poisoning opponents for sustained residual damage. Power Gem spread (75 BP Rock) hits both opponents simultaneously; Sludge Wave (95 BP Poison) and Mortal Spin together form a Poison dual-STAB offensive combination. 130 SpAtk makes spread special moves threatening even without held item boosts.

Incineroar’s Fake Out gives Glimmora an extra action turn; opponents choosing not to use physical moves to avoid Toxic Debris combined with Incineroar’s Intimidate Attack drop eliminates physical attacker threats entirely. Double physical suppression leaves opponents no physical options — Glimmora freely uses spread special attacks. Parting Shot maintains field control.
Alolan Muk’s Poison-type immunity to Poison Spikes ensures backup options are unaffected by own Poison Spikes. More importantly, Alolan Muk’s Ability Block prevents opponents from using stat-lowering abilities, synergizing with Glimmora’s defensive profile. Dark typing provides anti-Psychic coverage that Glimmora lacks.
Grassy Terrain reduces Earthquake damage by 50%, covering Glimmora’s primary Ground-type weakness. Grassy Glide priority Grass STAB allows Rillaboom to quickly threaten Ground-type attackers that target Glimmora, while Grassy Terrain’s 1/16 HP restoration per turn extends Glimmora’s field longevity for more Toxic Debris triggers.
Tentacruel’s Levitate grants Ground-type immunity, covering Glimmora’s Ground weakness. Tentacruel’s Poison STAB synergizes with Glimmora’s Poison Spikes strategy; Corrosion ability lets Tentacruel poison Steel and Poison types (normally immune to poison), extending Poison Spikes coverage to types that would otherwise be safe switch-ins against Glimmora.
How to Counter Glimmora
Glimmora has a 2× weakness to Ground-type moves, and Earthquake spread simultaneously hits both opponents while bypassing Toxic Debris trigger conditions (non-contact move). Earthquake deals super-effective spread damage to Glimmora without triggering Toxic Debris — the preferred move selection for this matchup.
Glimmora has a 2× weakness to Water-type moves; rain-boosted Water spread moves like Surf deal effective damage. Crucially, Surf is a non-contact move that does not trigger Toxic Debris — allowing Water-type spread attackers to safely clear Glimmora with spread coverage without poisoning themselves.
Steel and Poison types are completely immune to Poison Spikes, making them safe switch-ins unaffected by accumulated Poison Spikes. Teams centered around Steel-type switch rotation can completely ignore Glimmora’s Poison Spikes strategy — Toxic Debris ability is nearly useless against Steel/Poison-heavy rosters.
Non-contact moves (Rock Slide, Heat Wave, Surf, Aura Sphere, etc.) do not trigger Toxic Debris — allowing attackers to safely deal damage to Glimmora without scattering Poison Spikes. Identifying and prioritizing non-contact spread special moves is the most effective counter-strategy against Glimmora in team composition.
