Rillaboom
VGC Guide
Rillaboom’s Grassy Surge is one of the most universally useful terrain abilities in VGC. Grassy Terrain overwrites Electric Terrain, halves Ground moves, and enables Grassy Glide — a +1 priority Grass STAB that punishes virtually any grounded threat, making Rillaboom a stable core for nearly any team.
Grassy Surge: Terrain Control Core
Grassy Terrain overwrites any competing terrain on entry. Rillaboom switching in after Miraidon completely removes Electric Terrain, neutering the Miraidon + Iron Hands Quark Drive core. Grassy Glide’s +1 priority attacks before standard moves but after -1 priority Protect users.

Grassy Terrain doesn’t interfere with Astral Barrage output; both cover different damage dimensions, and Grassy Glide priority finishes off grounded physical targets.
Grassy Glide priority + Surging Strikes priority creates a two-pronged attack that opponents struggle to Protect correctly against.
Fake Out enables Rillaboom to safely set terrain; Parting Shot reduces opposing Attack making Rillaboom much harder to KO.
Sun weather and Grassy Terrain stack — they’re different game mechanics. Koraidon + Rillaboom can maintain both simultaneously for compound benefits.
How to Counter Rillaboom
Fire moves are super-effective against Grass. Koraidon’s Sacred Fire and Incineroar’s Flare Blitz nearly OHKO Rillaboom. Under Sun, Fire output is ×1.5 stronger — Sun teams are Rillaboom’s natural predator.
Poison is super-effective against Grass. Sludge Bomb and Sludge Wave (spread) efficiently handle Rillaboom, especially spread Poison moves in doubles.
Flying is super-effective against Grass. Hurricane (under Rain = 100% acc), Bleakwind Storm, or Acrobatics rapidly eliminate Rillaboom.
Bring in Miraidon to re-set Electric Terrain — this overwrites Grassy Terrain, restores Iron Hands’ Quark Drive, and removes Grassy Glide’s priority bonus.
