Ogerpon
VGC Guide
Ogerpon’s additional type and ability change with each mask form, and Ivy Cudgel’s type matches the equipped mask. Upon Terastallization, Ogerpon’s type fully becomes the mask’s type, granting Ivy Cudgel a STAB boost and significantly increasing damage. With 120 base Attack and 110 base Speed, it is a fast, high-burst physical attacker.
Four Mask Forms Comparison
Ivy Cudgel has 100 base power and matches the equipped mask’s type, gaining STAB after Terastallization. Post-Tera Ivy Cudgel effective power: 100 × 1.5 STAB = 150 BP. Combined with Ogerpon’s 120 Attack, this deals massive damage against the vast majority of targets.

Team Partners
Koraidon’s Orichalcum Pulse sets Sun, boosting Hearthflame Ogerpon’s Fire Ivy Cudgel by ×1.5. Koraidon is Fire-immune, eliminating friendly fire risk. This is a high-usage sun dual-core in VGC.
Wellspring Ogerpon’s Water Absorb immunizes it to Kyogre’s Water Spout. Both form the rain team’s front duo — Kyogre handles special Water output while Ogerpon provides physical and Grass coverage.
Fake Out enables safe Ogerpon entry before Terastallization. Parting Shot reduces opposing SpAtk, protecting Ogerpon’s 96 SpDef. This support applies to all four Ogerpon mask forms.
Tailwind brings Ogerpon’s 110 Speed to 220. With Teal Mask Embody Aspect on top, it acts before virtually everything. Prankster Taunt prevents opponents from using field moves against Ogerpon.
How to Counter Ogerpon
Hearthflame Mask (Grass/Fire) is weak to Rock, Poison, and Flying. Rock Slide or Landorus-Therian’s Rock coverage deals heavy super-effective damage, especially in sun team matchups where Hearthflame is most common.
Wellspring Mask (Grass/Water) is weak to Electric, Grass, and Poison. Miraidon’s Electro Drift or Rillaboom’s Grassy Glide can pressure Wellspring Ogerpon effectively.
Ogerpon must spend a turn to Terastallize. Outspeeding and eliminating Ogerpon before it Teras prevents Ivy Cudgel from gaining STAB. Speed control is the most effective counter direction.
Ivy Cudgel’s Grass type is resisted by all Steel-types (0.5×). Steel-type partners or opposing Pokémon like Gholdengo or Corviknight can safely tank Teal and Wellspring Ogerpon’s Ivy Cudgel.
