Champions
Meta 2026
Full meta analysis based on 141,848 Showdown battles (06/18–07/01/2026). Covers the SP system, top-10 usage, four archetypes, Mega tier list, speed tiers, and damage calculations.
Format Overview
Pokemon Champions centers on the SP system to balance Mega Evolution choices. These four panels cover everything you need to understand the format.
Each Mega Pokemon costs a fixed SP value; your team total cannot exceed the format cap. Players must choose between M-A (high-SP powerhouse Megas) and M-B (low-SP efficient Megas), creating a diverse team-building ecosystem.
M-A picks are high-SP top-tier Megas (e.g. Mega Charizard Y at 5SP). M-B picks are low-SP efficient Megas (e.g. Mega Lopunny at 2SP). Pairing one M-A with multiple M-B Megas maximises team flexibility per SP.

Lycanroc-Dusk leads win rate at 53.53% despite only 8.2% usage — signalling a targeted counter-pick role rather than a universal slot, consistent with its niche anti-Garchomp tech function.

Key Usage Stats
Sinistcha leads usage at 31.32% with Garchomp close behind at 29.92%, reflecting the dual dominance of spread special attackers and Dragon/Ground physical spread in the format. Lycanroc-Dusk's 53.53% win rate dramatically outpacing its 8.2% usage signals a targeted tech pick role against the format's top threats.
Four Top Archetypes
Rain (Mega Swampert Core)
SP Spread: Mega Swampert 4SP + Pelipper 0SP (4SP total — budget left for M-B Mega)
Pelipper's Drizzle sets permanent Rain, maximising Mega Swampert's Wave Crash damage. Basculegion's Last Respects compounds in damage as foes are KO'd, while Whimsicott's Tailwind ensures the Rain core outruns Trick Room-based counterplay. Kingambit finishes weakened opponents with Supreme Overlord boosted attacks.
- +Wave Crash under Rain guarantees OHKO on Garchomp at +0
- +Multiple speed control layers (Tailwind + Icy Wind funnelling)
- +Permanent Rain from Pelipper suppresses Sun teams' entire gameplan
- -Highly vulnerable to Electric-type spread (Archaludon Electro Shot)
- -Tailwind loss from early Whimsicott KO collapses speed advantage instantly
- -Weather dependency means Drought / Sandstorm switches gut burst damage
Trick Room (Sinistcha + Farigiraf)
SP Spread: Mega Slowbro 3SP (M-A pick) or Mega Slowking 2SP (budget M-B option)
Farigiraf's Sound Proof ability makes it immune to sound-based moves — crucially, opposing Taunt cannot prevent its Trick Room. Sinistcha moves first inside TR with its naturally low Speed, putting out enormous spread damage. Whimsicott's priority Encore locks opponents into non-attacking moves after TR ends, buying Sinistcha an extra kill turn.
- +Farigiraf Sound Proof immunity stops Taunt-based TR disruption cold
- +Sinistcha low Speed becomes a first-move advantage inside TR
- +Basculegion Last Respects scales linearly with each foe KO'd
- -TR setup wastes a full action turn — heavy offense can punish the setup turn hard
- -No weather control means Rain spread damage is difficult to tank
- -Whimsicott priority Encore loses to Prankster foes and low-priority users
Sun (Mega Charizard Y Core)
SP Spread: Mega Charizard Y 5SP (top-tier M-A — must pair with all M-B support members)
Mega Charizard Y's Drought auto-sets Sun on switch-in, doubling Heat Wave's effective damage and halving incoming Water-type moves. Whimsicott's Tailwind gives Mega Charizard Y first-move priority on spread, and Garchomp's Earthquake handles Electric-type threats. Pelipper sits in the back as a weather-override threat that forces the opponent to respect the weather trade.
- +Heat Wave in Sun threatens OHKO or guaranteed 2HKO on most non-Dragon targets
- +Drought halves incoming Water-type spread damage — enormous passive bulk gain
- +Tailwind + Mega Charizard Y's base 100 Speed after Mega creates near-unreachable speed tier
- -Rock-type spread (Rockslide, Stone Edge) hits Mega Charizard Y for 4x — a one-shot risk
- -Rain overrides Sun cleanly; Pelipper entering the field shifts the entire momentum
- -High SP cost leaves little room for a second high-SP Mega in the same team
Goodstuffs (Balanced Archetype)
SP Spread: Mega Metagross 4SP + Mega Lopunny 2SP (6SP total — dual M-A/M-B flex build)
Goodstuffs relies on team-selection flexibility rather than a single strategy. Mega Metagross's Tough Claws doubles Iron Head's contact move damage, while Mega Lopunny's high Speed and Fighting type cleanly handles Dark-type threats. No weather dependency means the team's lead selection is more consistent across all opposing archetypes.
- +Weather-independent gameplan — consistent pick phase decisions vs weather teams
- +Mega Metagross Tough Claws Iron Head deals high contact damage to most targets
- +Dual Mega composition makes the team harder to specifically counter in team preview
- -No weather burst ceiling — raw damage output falls short vs dedicated weather teams
- -Flexible design requires deep meta knowledge to squeeze out maximum value
- -Higher SP budget usage limits support member choices

Key Damage Calculations
One of the most efficient Rain turn-1 plays. The Rain boost pushes Wave Crash past the OHKO threshold on the second-highest-usage Pokemon in the format.
Tough Claws contact boost pushes Iron Head to a reliable 2HKO on the format's highest-usage Pokemon. This is the core Goodstuffs calculation for handling Sinistcha-based TR teams.
The key Sun vs Rain weather war calculation. Heat Wave in Sun OHKOs the Rain setter cleanly, giving Sun teams the first-mover advantage in any weather trade sequence.
