Restricted Legendary — Regulation I

Reshiram
VGC Guide

Reshiram is Regulation I’s only special attacker with 150 SpAtk capable of catastrophic Fire output under Sun. Turboblaze bypasses defensive abilities, Blue Flare under Sun devastates the field — making Reshiram the premier Sun pair attacker.

Turboblaze + Blue Flare: Core Mechanics

Turboblaze

Identical to Teravolt (Zekrom). Reshiram’s moves ignore all opponent defensive ability effects — Lightning Rod/Storm Drain redirection immunity, Multiscale/Shadow Shield damage halving, and Thick Fat resistance bonuses.

Blue Flare → ignores Flash Fire (via Turboblaze)
Blue Flare

130 BP, 85 accuracy, 20% burn chance. Sun boosts Fire ×1.5 + STAB ×1.5 = 2.25× effective damage multiplier on 150 base SpAtk. Most non-resistant Pokémon face near-certain OHKO.

Sun Blue Flare effective = 130 × 1.5 (STAB) × 1.5 (Sun) = 292.5 BP
Sun Blue Flare vs Amoonguss (252 HP)
Reshiram 252 SpAtk Timid = 249 Sp.Atk
Blue Flare in Sun = 292.5 effective BP → Amoonguss ×2 Fire weakness
Result: Near-guaranteed OHKO even vs 252 HP Amoonguss

Sun Team Synergy: Best Combinations

A+

Koraidon + Reshiram

Koraidon’s Orichalcum Pulse auto-sets Sun, powering up Reshiram’s Blue Flare massively. Koraidon handles physical pressure (Fighting/Fire), Reshiram handles special (Fire/Dragon) — complete dual core.

S

Groudon + Reshiram

Groudon’s Desolate Land makes Sun permanent and unoverrideable by opponents — Reshiram’s Blue Flare under Desolate Land reaches maximum damage. Ground + Fire + Dragon provides complete type coverage.

B+

Zekrom + Reshiram

Fusion mechanic: after Reshiram uses Fusion Flare, Zekrom’s Fusion Bolt doubles in power (and vice versa). The “Black and White Dragon” pair is Regulation I’s most thematic and high-ceiling combo.

Weaknesses & Counters

Threat
Ground moves (Earthquake)
Weakness
2× Ground weakness
Response
Pair with Levitate or Flying-type teammates immune to Earthquake, or ensure speed advantage to strike first.
Threat
Rock moves (Rock Slide)
Weakness
2× Rock weakness
Response
Rock-types are generally slow — Reshiram can often strike first. Under speed pressure, use Protect to buy a turn.
Threat
Dragon moves
Weakness
Dragon weakness (mutual)
Response
Reshiram’s Dragon moves can retaliate, but opponent Dragon-type restricted legends often have similar speed — Speed creep matters here.
Threat
Kyogre (Rain + Water)
Weakness
Water weakness + weather suppression
Response
Eliminate Kyogre first or bring weather reversal. Koraidon’s Sun is suppressed under Kyogre’s Primordial Sea — this must be addressed through lineup positioning.
