Zekrom
VGC Guide
Zekrom is Regulation I’s premier physical Electric attacker — 150 base Attack with Bolt Strike’s 130 BP and Teravolt bypassing all defensive abilities. Dragon/Electric typing provides broad offensive coverage, making it a cornerstone of Rain and Electric Terrain teams.
Teravolt: Deep Mechanics
Bypasses opponent ability effects when attacking
Similar to Mold Breaker. Zekrom’s moves ignore all opponent defensive abilities — most importantly: Bolt Strike bypasses Multiscale (Dragonite), Shadow Shield (Lunala), and Volt Absorb/Lightning Rod-type Electric immunities.
Not redirected by Lightning Rod or Storm Drain
In doubles, redirection abilities (Lightning Rod, Storm Drain) have no effect on Zekrom’s attacks. Zekrom freely selects any target without Gastrodon or Raichu siphoning the hit.
Does not override type immunities
Teravolt cannot make Electric moves hit Ground-type Pokémon. Ground immunity remains — this is Zekrom’s biggest offensive blind spot. Dragon-type moves or partner coverage must address Grounds.

Rain amplifies Electric threat perception (opponents fear Thunder). Kyogre is weak to Electric while Zekrom is weak to Water — a natural complementary weakness profile.
After Reshiram uses Fusion Flare, Zekrom’s Fusion Bolt doubles in power. Dual-Dragon coverage is broad, but shared Dragon/Fairy weakness requires support.
Groudon’s Earthquake addresses Zekrom’s Ground-type blind spot. Together they provide complete physical type coverage across the metagame.
Special + Physical dual-core. Ghost typing makes Calyrex-Shadow immune to Earthquake that threatens Zekrom, covering the shared Ground weakness defensively.
